    Reference . . .

    VIN = 9110300331
    Eng# = unknown
    Trans# = unknown

    From the Gooding &Co auction description . . .

    . . . To be sold at the Gooding & Company Amelia Island Auction on March 9, 2012. For further details please visit www.goodingco.com or contact a vehicle specialist at 001.310.899.1960. Engine Specifications: 2,195 CC SOHC Air-Cooled Flat 6-Cylinder Engine Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection 180 BHP at 6,500 RPM 5-Speed Type 901 Manual Gearbox 4-Wheel Ventilated Disc Brakes 4-Wheel Independent Suspension About this Car: For the 1970 model year, Porsche introduced a thoroughly revised 2.2-liter engine for the entire 911 range. As with the previous year, the 911 S remained at the top of the range and offered the enthusiastic driver the most rewarding behind-the-wheel experience. In total, Porsche completed less than 1,750 S models for 1970, of which 394 made their way to the US. The 2.2 S Coupe presented here is a lovely example of the early 911 and one of the few examples originally slated for US delivery. Finished in the distinctive color combination of Sepia Brown over Russet leatherette, this 911 left the Porsche factory with the S comfort package, an antenna with loudspeaker and noise suppression, in addition to tinted glass all around. According to the consignor, this 911 was stored in a private garage in North Carolina for almost 20 years before he seized the opportunity to acquire it. Complete but in need of restoration, the Porsche was entrusted to RennGruppe Motorsports of Lexington, a local marque specialist. The two-year, no-expense-spared restoration saw the 911 completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal before being prepared for paintwork and powder coating. During the process, the bodywork was found to be healthy and reportedly free of accident damage or significant corrosion issues. Thoughtfully refinished in its rare, as-delivered color scheme, the 911 has also benefitted from a rebuild of its correct type 901 gearbox and the original matching-numbers engine. The project was finished with new rubber, polished wheels, brakes, wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rods, fasteners and shock absorbers. As would be expected of a freshly restored 911, this 2.2 S presents well in all respects and ought to be an ideal candidate for either show or tour. In addition to its fine appearance, this Porsche is offered with an owner?s manual, tool kit and Certificate of Authenticity. For the collector in search of a beautifully presented, matching-numbers 911 S, there is no need to look further than this superb 2.2 S Coupe . . .

    Looks like it was a no-sale according to results. The person who installed the headliner should be "excused" from duty as an installer. Look at the photo of the rear quarter window and note the "photoshop" blurring which hid whatever was there but the wrinkles.

    Here are the shop photos.

    Interestingly if you look at that headliner, it has the correct pattern. It is either original or a long ago NOS replacement. So they took the care to use the right headliner, but made a mess of the install.

    Radio is wrong too. Those white faced Frankfurt buttons didn't come till '74. But that is far less a transgression than the sloppy headliner.
