Not sure this is really going to help but I will throw it into the mix anyway!

June '68 build TR (11820912) has what looks like a mixture of body colour (Tangerine) and black (see first two pics below of engine lid hinges, ignore the purple/brown paint the car received in Uganda) whilst another TR (11820834) had a similar treatment (see third pic).

I appreciate these are not necessarily typical cars and that aesthetics were perhaps not top of the factory's list of priorities for competition cars, or that perhaps they were removed from the production line before a final paint/quality stage in their build that production cars would have received, but it might just suggest that this is an area that does not lend itself to a definitive black and white answer? I would suggest that you try and get some photos from untouched '68 production cars to verify (from memory there was a thread a year or two ago that discussed this very point so a search might throw something up); I have seen both black and body colour on restored cars but that seems to be driven by finish chosen for the engine bay.

This has been discussed numerous times on the forum. Here is what the general consensus is to date:

Black thru 69 on all cars.

Black thru 71 on Karmann built cars.

much appreciated. Would anyone out there be able to answer what size wheels the 68L should have with vented disc brakes?
