All the best on the rebuild, man. It's cool that you're looking to the upside in all this.

It's a great opportunity to improve the engine and my experience.I was admittedly depressed for a couple days.... Mainly because our driving season is so short!

Do you have Wayne Dempsey's comprehensive book on the subject? I forget if you mentioned it.

Thank goodness the head studs look ok, there were more broken exhaust studs than non broken ones a few years ago when I put ssi's on that thing. Man, I wish that car could talk....

No, I do have a bentley though, and some experienced friends to lean on with questions. I worry most about getting the case back together so it doesnt leak, and doing cam timing. I will probably borrow the book for the reassembly.
I agree, though they are clearly still dillivar. I'll be swapping them out of course. I put two nuts together but still couldnt back the studs out.... dont know if I need to weld on a nut or what.
it certainly is. I hammered my shin on the 915, and then square on a head stud in the precise same location. It put me down for about 10 minutes.
I am realizing now that I probably should have taken the rods off before taking the case apart. Everything else went smoothly. cylinders showed not much wear. some typical wear on the main bearings but no scoring or issues on the crank. thats happy.
