Tate,
Are you doing this work around Atlanta or up in NC?
I'd like to stop by and check it out some time
Bryce
I believe he is referring to Martine the owner of Auto Europe. A super nice and very talented mechanic.

Oops. Missed the Martine reference at the top of the post.
Need to stop by his shop and see those engines...!
Mark. You are correct. Martine was my first boss..in 1985. I worked as an apprentice in his shop while in high school. He bought me my first 911.... a 1972 911 T Sepia brown. I was doing a brake job on another car... He stopped me and said..."I bought you a car... it cost me $2,000. I will take $100 a week out of your paycheck...until it is paid for." Mind you.... he stayed late on many nights and weekends to help me restore the car.... I was 15 years old at the time.... A great mentor. He started as an engine builder at Northlake Porsche in the early 70's. Franz Blam was the service manager at the time. Martine ran the "Engine room". My father bought a new 1973 T from Northlake... Martine and Franz tore the new motor down.... and built him a....2.8 liter twin plug high butterfly motor... He was immediately banned from SCCA racing the car. The sound of that motor was fantastic.... I helped Martine move a few years back and was packing his office... I uncovered a plaque... that said.."Porsche Factory Mechanic of the Year" 1976. He told me to put it in his desk.... When I ask him about it today, he says..."I don't know what you are talking about." A very humble and great man. Tate

If the date codes on each half of the two cases are visible behind the pulley, I'd really like to know them.

An excellent description of Martine. You and I must be around the same age. I used to go by NLPA and drool over the cars after school around that period as well. I have a 66 that was supposedly built by FB. He signed the car somewhere, I have a picture of it, but I have not pulled the int to look for it.
