1969 Vin # Problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Is my car a 1970 or a 1969?
Car was abandoned 20 years ago, rebuild and mechanic storage
lein title was obtained. Car may have been built out of several cars.
    Who knows.

Did any 1969 911`s vins start with 911 vs 119?
911 specs and three other sites says they did, who is correct?
I can not find a 1969 vin starting with 911, please advise.

    Possibly...data pulled from another post...

    Production number: 1297xxx
    1. First digit represents whether the body is a replacement or standard production – 0 designates a replacement body, 1 designates a production body (not sure what this means exactly)
    2. Second digit is the body type and where it was built – 0 designates a Stuttgart coupe, 1 designates a Stuttgart targa, 2 designates a Karmann coupe, 3 designates a Karmann 914/6
    3. Third digit is the model year – in this case the 9 represents 1969, a 0 would represent 1970, a 1 for 1971, etc.

Post some pictures for further comments...

This data may be referring to 1970MY cars built in 1969........
Especially when it lists the 1970 MY engine size.....
    Other than the misprint 911(9/0)120001?
Many books have the chassis numbers in that configuration.

Don't know about the dash number......
If it is a 69 tub, didn't Karmann also have some numbers on the shift cover area?
Is there any evidence of a clip?
Is the stamped number and the plate the same?
If it is a US car, how about the windshield number and the door jamb decal?

Actually, I could be wrong. I didn`t unscrew the knee pad entirely. It may be a 1001749,
I will get it off this weekend and have a look.

My biggest concern was the 911 specs site saying the vin was in the 1969 range, I would
assume that perhaps the 1969 range in this case meant 1970 model year produced in the
3 quarter of 1969. Thanks for the help,

If you're VIN starts with a 9 and not a 1, you have a model year 1970 car. Plain and simple.

That is not to say the VIN in the trunk will match the model year under the knee pad. Someone may have done some heavy metal surgery on the car.

You really need to take some pictures of both numbers and post them here.
