By the way I heard that pepita colors were bound to the vinyl or leather color. So Black vinyl could never have black/white/red pepita, but would always have black/white pepita? Is that true? What was the formal color scheme?

I am not sure whether anything needs welding here. In my car (right top side) there is no hole, but something has been there. A original hole that was closed? On the left top picture you see the button, but it seems to be screwed only.

The 5.65 colors brochure (which is pretty clearly for the 1966 model year) from Porsche Historical Documents lists four interior codes:

Code	Leather/Leatherette		Pepita/Houndstooth
A	Rot • red	A/P1	Schwartz-Rot-Weiß • Black-Red-White
B	Schwartz • Black	B/P2	Schwartz-Weiß • Black–White
C	Braun • Braun	C/P3	Schwartz-Braun-Weiß • Black-Brown-White
D	Beige • Beige

It looks like you couldn't get Pepita/Houndstooth with a beige interior. Also, 912s would have had corduroy if someone chose fabric inserts.
