Not least the very few RS's built at the end of production with aluminium cases which prove elusive to list as they were not sequential in chassis number.

That is why I advocate enthusiasts using the original terms in the original factory paperwork ... M471 Sport.

    Totally agree Steve!

And to add even more confusion to this mix, some have taken to using shorthand to refer to the RS Sport (aka lightweight) as the RSL. Unfortunately that was a Porsche factory designation - for the M472 Carrera RS! Why? L = luxus = luxury.

The two other Dalmatian blue RHD ones built as RHD C16/EG that were actually earlier than this didn't have LSD however.

Never sure on correct name of these dark blue RS. Code 4848 is often called Dalmatian blue but I also hear and read "sea blue" (seeblau) and "Oxford blue" as used in the small factory "standard series colour" paint chip publication. Not sure if these just different terms for 4848 or their hue actually different. The RS book colour distribution bar chart graphic refers to Dalmatian blue in Dr K's first edition and inconsistently uses Oxford Blue for similar graphic in his second Edition IIRC?

I have a copy of a list of all the RS in RHD from a respected historian of model that predates either of the RS book, a period document and it uses Sea Blue" in English

Pesonally's not keen on the white side decal with that not being a correct original option, but each to their own.

Oxford, see blau and Dalmatian are all the same color. Really a terrific color for a 911, IMHO.

I owned a Rhd 73 RS in dalmation blue back in the 90's. I concur that the different names are for the same colour.
It is indeed a beautiful colour on an RS, in the dusk it takes on a lovely purple hue.
The one I had had no side decals and looked perfect in my eyes although I think the standard on dalmation blue was black.
I agree the white decals do not compliment the car.

I believe first series actually goes through 510. The first 10 serial numbers were reserved for prototypes. I don't know if any prototypes with those serial numbers actually exist, nor whether they are considered part of the count. The serial numbers go through 1590, and the typically quoted number is that 1580 were built...

Nice one that 0497, but I might be a bit biased...And easy, M472 no light weight panels except for one piece below the dashboard which apparently all RS's have (somebody told me...). Shorter trailing arms, does that mean lighter???

    Yes, nice photos Cees.

Were you in the Italy this Spring with the RS? My wife and I were in the Italian Alps a couple of weeks ago, in Bormio and Val Gardena (Dolomities), and saw a group of classic cars with a similar decal like you have in the rear quarter window of the Carrera.
