This car has been around the block a few times. First as a worn out 'barn find' and then as an over-restored example selling for US$137,500 at the 2014 Gooding Amelia Island Auction. Originally equipped with a Sportomatic transmission, Frank Beck observed; "Moonshine. Finding out your date used to be the opposite sex is always disappointing."

BaT Description:
This 1971 Porsche 911E Targa is a driver that has been with the seller for 12 years and is powered by a 2.2-liter flat-six mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The previous owner conducted a refurbishment in 1997, and this example is said to have been in California from new. The 1997 refresh included an engine and transmission rebuild, as well as a bare metal repaint in Champagne Platinum. Approximately 20k miles were added during the seller’s ownership and receipts include SSI headers, a sport muffler, motor mounts, fuel pump and lines, and shift bushings. This 911 is sold with a Porsche CoA and clean California title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Sepia Brown, in 1997 car was taken to bare metal and repainted in Champagne Platinum. Doors were replaced during the repaint, and some rock chips are visible in the finish. 16” Fuchs wheels are currently installed and are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tires.
Photos of the refurbishment are included and the seller believes that some filler might have been used when the bodywork was performed.
Some rips are noted in the driver’s seat bottom. Black upholstery shows its age and factory instrumentation remains fitted. Wear is evident on the steering wheel as further shown in the gallery. While the odometer currently reads 22,025, the seller estimates that the car has around 300k miles. The mechanically-injected 2.2L flat-six was reportedly rebuilt in 1997, but no receipts are available prior to the seller’s ownership. Carrera hydraulic tensioners and SSI headers have been fitted, and other services completed over the past 12 years included:
Oil return tubes
Shift lockout
External oil cooler
Fuel pump and lines
Strut brace
Hand throttle
K&N air filter
Rocker shaft o-rings
Motor mounts
Petronics points
Oil line
Oil thermostat
Fuel filter
Front sway bar
Front wheel bearings
Fuel sending unit gasket
Blue coil
Hood shocks and rear deck shocks
Window switches
External engine modifications include a sport muffler and SSI heat exchangers. According to the seller, the 5-speed manual transmission weeps fluid, the engine drips, and the second gear synchs are worn. Factory 14” wheels, heat exchangers, spring plates, and muffler are included along with the seller’s records and original registration cards from prior owners. The Porsche CoA lists the original color combination as Sepia Brown over Beige/Tan Leatherette. Included paperwork shows the car was sold new in January 1971 and registered in San Diego, California two months later.

Would you buy a 911 from Panama? Sketchy- visual body issues combined with no engine info or pictures.
ROW model with rear window wiper caught my eye. Flag mirror, newer interior door panels with power windows.

Seller's Description:
This vintage 1971 Porsche 911 "E" model has been in my family for 40+ years. Purchased by my late father in Southern California in 1975. Priced to sell. I'm looking for a good owner. Please don't bid without contacting me first! Rare opportunity to secure a clean and dry vehicle that is running well.
HERITAGE
This car was originally a police detective vehicle in Italy. Exported from Europe to the USA in 1975 where it was ultimately purchased by my late father. This car is in excellent running condition. Starts with ease, idles steady, and sounds beautiful. The Sportomatic transmission shifts like a dream, no grinding, expertly rebuilt two years ago. The motor has excellent acceleration and power and is extremely a joy to drive. The brakes have strong initial bite, no fading, no pulling. This car features the highly coveted Recaro Sports seats and rear window wiper, both were considered options off the assembly line. Original Fuch wheels restored by Harvey Weidman in 2006. No issues of rust and/or corrosion. The rubber and seals are in excellent condition. Targa has a perfect seal, no rips or tears, does not leak. All numbers are matching. Verifiable. The top motor is completely clean and dry and does not show any oil. The bottom/underbelly is not leaky. Clean dual-country Title (Panama and California). Both Titles are in my name. Both Titles are clear and clean, 70,849 Original Miles. 4-speed Sportomatic Transmission, European Gauges. This US/California car is located in Panama City, Panama. Ships to Oxnard, California for about $1800. Ships to Miami for about $1000. Will ship world-wide. Buyer pays shipping. I will thoroughly assist buyer with all shipping arrangements including local customs brokers for a clean, safe and swift delivery.
MILEAGE
The speedometer shows 13,441 kilometers (or 8,351 miles). When comparing this figure against that which is shown on an original service record dated August 1992 (93,910 kilometers) the total estimated miles this car has been driven is 70,489 miles.
HISTORY
I was 10 years old when my Dad drove this car home from the Dealer. For my Dad, the Porsche he wanted had to be the E (Mechanical Fuel Injection) model, Targa and with the coveted Sportomatic transmission. Even in those early days, finding this car with these specifications proved to be challenging. There were only 270 copies (more like over 900) of the “E” models produced by Porsche in 1971. Thus, the total of number of productions with the Targa/Sportomatic combination was/is much less.
Needless to say, this car represents a major timepiece of my life which explains why I have held onto the car for 17 years since my Dad passed away. This car was my father’s cherished “baby”. He had multiple cars and lived only a few miles from his work. And so, it is not possible that my Dad put many miles on this car. He drove this car very sparingly, mostly on weekend trips to the golf course. In fact, I learned to drive this car when I was just 14 years old after a round of golf with my dad. My father passed away in 2000 when I was overseas with the US military. Due to this commitment, I was not able to immediately take possession of the car. Instead, I made arrangements for the car to be stored in Pasadena, California, where the car remained non-operated for more than five years.
RESTORATION
I personally managed the restoration of this vehicle over a two year period from 2005 to 2007. All of the work performed on this car was performed by specialists in Southern California with 40+ years of experience. My focus principally involved the exterior and interior of the vehicle to include upholstery, rubber and seals, carpets, re-chroming, wheels and full body and paint with both rear and front windows, and Targa roll bar off.
CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY - Yes. All matching numbers.

This tangerine 70 E coupe looks like a pretty decent driver with for once a more realistic BIN of $78k. Anyone know the car? No VIN sticker on the door jam and missing door pockets, but still pretty tidy looking.

This beautiful factory straight 911 E Coupe is as nice in person as the pictures reflect. Review the 68 pictures posted and note how straight the body panels are,how well all the panels align with perfect gaps.I was unable to discern any rust on the car. The engine has clearly been completely gone through, note all the fresh nuts, washers, gaskets and dry seams. Note how flush the doors hang on the tub. The paint is as nice as reflected, rubber seals are good, tires are brand new, wheels are without flaw. The dash is void of cracks, the leather is good, as is the carpets. The run and drive is as nice as the car is cosmetically, synchros are good, clutch feels good, suspension tight. The engine does not smoke on start up or acceleration. Review the 68 pictures posted, if the car holds interest contact me at 615-971-4409. Independent inspections are welcomed and encouraged. The car is located in the Nashville TN metro area. There will be an additional $99 assessed to each sales transaction for dealer doc fees. This and other European collectibles may be reviewed at JPFRAZIER.com
